Coffee at Taktsang Cafetaria, Tiger's Nest, Paro

Coffee at Taktsang Cafetaria, Tiger's Nest, Paro This cafeteria which is around halfway mark of the not so easy climb to Taktsang Goempa near Paro offers a great view of the famous monastery high up in the mountain. Coffee break here  was absolutely necessary. Had  a great time here doing some sketching with hot coffee and thin cream cracker biscuits.

Rhododendron in Pine forest, Taktsang, Bhutan

Rhododendron in Pine Forest I did not find rhododendron flowers to be very attractive but surely their bright red clusters created a nice visual contrast to an otherwise green background of bushes, trees and forests - all in different shades of green. That is where they stood out.

Craft bazaar at Taktsang, Paro

Craft bazaar at Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) When you descend from the green cover at Taktsang ( Tiger's Nest ), there is this open space with local vendors selling all kinds of craft and accessories. Noticed a tall white woman who seemed to be straight from a Hollywood Western film. Even had the same swagger. Very peculiar personality.

Taktsang ( Tiger's Nest), Paro

Taktsang (Tiger's Nest), Paro Like everything in Bhutan, there are several tales associated with Taktsang also known as Tiger's Nest, which is a wonderful monastery. Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) who brought Buddhism to Bhutan is said to have meditated here. He is also supposed to have flown here on the back of a tigress. It is a beautiful climb and reminded me of the climb to Kedarnath, although the climb to Kedarnath is much longer and harder and even more beautiful. It was extremely irritating to pushed aside by the constant stream of horses who were carrying those who were not fit as well as many who seemed fit but preferred not to walk this beautiful path. The green cover all around with liberal doses of red rhododendron flowers could not be missed.
