Goan house

Goan house Noticed this pretty house somewhere on the outskirts of Goa while driving. It was so charming that I had to stop by and take pictures. Climbed the steps to check in from close quarters but the closer view was not all that charming. Despite that, the impression of this house remains etched in my mind.

Going to school in the mountains

Going to school in the mountains Special admiration is due for the children in the mountains. Many of them have to trek significant distances to go to school.  Children in the cities cannot even imagine the kind of hardships these children have to go through.  Over the last so many years, in my numerous travels in the mountains, what has amazed me is the happiness that radiates from the faces of these children despite the hardships they have to undergo in their day to day life.

After a hard day's work in the mountains

After a hard day's work We met this fellow late afternoon near Chitkul in Kinnaur , Himachal . He was on his way back after a long hard day of work and was carrying a heavy sack. Not very articulate and not very keen to talk, his persona reflected the quintessential hill folk - rustic, hardy, simple, god fearing and content with life. Village Chitkul which is the last village on the Indian side (the mountain ranges would lead into Tibet) can be seen in the background, whereas river Baspa is to the left. I shot this picture in early October when the colours start changing from green to yellow to red and the skies are clear.

Haji Ali Dargah

Haji Ali, Mumbai See the blog post The  Haji Ali Dargah  is a  mosque  and  dargah  ( tomb ) located on an islet off the coast of  Worli  in the Southern part of  Mumbai . Near the heart of the city proper, the dargah is one of the most recognisable landmarks of Mumbai. An exquisite example of  Indo-Islamic Architecture , associated with legends about doomed lovers, the dargah contains the tomb of Sayed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari.  ( source : Wikipedia )
