Early morning at Paddington station

Early morning at London Paddington station Early morning at London Paddington station was an entirely different experience than being here during the busy day time. This was around the time when the first trains were rolling out of the station. The play of light was spectacular with the train lights adding the extra drama.

Train to NJP from Darjeeling has a short halt at Ghum railway station

Train to NJP from Darjeeling has a short halt at Ghum railway station Since we had barely made it to Darjeeling station in time to board this train to New Jalpaiguri , the brief halt at Ghum allowed us to pick up something to eat and have chai. Early morning at Dadar railway station

Early morning at Dadar railway station Looking through this suburban train at Dadar railway station , I realised that things were happening at multiple planes - the platform beyond and another track with a locomotive there.

Early morning at a railway station

Early morning at a railway station The light plays out in a fascinating manner in the early hours at a railway station. There is this constant light of tube lights on the platforms and the red signals. When a train arrives, the head lights of the locomotive seem to be stationary and they pick up speed when the train starts closing in piercing the darkness around and make the tracks shine. The lights in the coaches of the trains are the additional lights which play out and then the signal lights change to green and yellow. In a large railway station, this drama gets played out every few minutes till it is morning and the train lights are no longer needed. The drama of the light piercing the darkness has ended and a new day has begun.

Kalka - Shimla Railway

Kalka - Shimla Railway Single line narrow gauge especially in the hills - this is a different world altogether. The trains on these tracks are never intimidating. They are friendly and charming and definitely not macho. Best thing to happen is that you do not know the railway timetable which means that train could suddenly appear from nowhere.
